God wants you well in your body to such a degree that He provided various methods where you can receive divine healing. Even doctors have faith in faith. A survey conducted by the American Academy of Family Physicians shows that ninety-nine percent of doctors believe a relationship exists between faith and physical healing. Recently, more than one thousand health-care professionals met at Harvard Medical School to examine the connection between spirituality and healing. Doctors’ faith in faith was bolstered by a California study of the effect of prayer on recovery from heart problems. About two hundred heart patients were assigned to Christians who prayed for them, while an equal number, a control group, received no known prayers. Neither group knew about the prayers, yet those who received prayer developed half the complications that were experienced by those in the control group. A similar study by the Dartmouth Medical School examined the effect of prayer on healing when the patients prayed for themselves. The death rate six months after bypass surgery was 9 percent for the general population but 5 percent for those who prayed for their own healing. And none of the deeply religious patients died during the period of the study.1 Is that amazing or what? So we’re headed out today focusing on God’s Love for You and Methods of Divine Healing — all on this week’s Light on Life.

Prayer
- Well again, welcome.
- Let’s pray.
Father God, thank you that you provided for men various ways, various methods whereby people can receive healing at your hand. It’s a marvelous thing. There’s a method for everybody — no one is left out. Thank you for that. Thank you for loving us the way that you do. We give you praise because of your great compassion for us in Jesus Name, Amen.
Methods of Divine Healing: The Future
- So, we will start in 1 Corinthians two because there is a story here and who doesn’t like a story.
1 Corinthians 2:9–10 (ESV)— But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— 10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
- Normally, when there is a ‘this is written’ statement it’s because it is written somewhere else in scripture.
- Typically in the Old Testament.
- But, in this case there is no exact verse in the Old Testament that states what Paul said is written word for word.
- So, why did Paul say it is written?
- It’s because it’s not written word for word but conceptually in it’s in the scripture.
- For example, we have this passage in Isaiah sixty-four.
Isaiah 64:4 (ESV) — 4 From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him.
- So, this verse is the first part of what Paul is quoting [the no eye has seen, nor ear heard part],— now what about the last part — what God has prepared for those who love Him?
- The last part is revelation!
- The last part is over in an area that even if God laid out the details of what He has prepared for you that love Him, you would not be able to grasp it.
- But there are some glimpses of something that’s coming that’s utterly phenomenal.
Isaiah 65:17 (ESV) — 17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.
- There will be a new heavens and a new earth that will so blow you away that you won’t even remember how this earth was during your time on it.
- Wow! What God has planned for those who love Him!
- How about this next verse?
Isaiah 66:22 (ESV) 22 — “For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the Lord, so shall your offspring and your name remain.
- How about these passages in the New Testament?
2 Peter 3:13 (ESV) — 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
- And, here’s a second one in the New Testament.
Revelation 21:1 (ESV) — 1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
- So, two verses in the Old Testament, and two verses in the New Testament.
- Let me ask you something now.
- After having read these four verses, do you know anything more about what the new heaven and the new earth will be like?
- How many of the details are missing?
- How about all of them?
- Do you understand that you’re not unique in your curiosity about these matters?
- That there are billions of his saints who would like to know the answer to the question, ‘What is the new heaven and earth going to be like?’
- And yet, out of those billions of saints, nobody knows the answer.
- If God showed it to you in a vision, if He did lay it out for you in great detail, you wouldn’t even have a frame of reference to compare to what you saw.
- John the Apostle caught a glimpse of the New City part of the new heavens and the new earth.
- He saw it from the bottom up.
Revelation 21:2 (ESV) — And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
- And there it is — That’s all the info that we have.
- No eye has seen what it will be like.
- There is no ear that’s heard even a whisper of what shall be.
- The Spielberg’s and the George Lucas’s among us who have are so creatively vivid in their thinking cannot even conjure up an imagination out of their hearts that even close to what God has prepared for those who love him.
- It’s too wonderful for you.
Psalm 139:14 (ESV) — 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
- The Hebrew word ‘wonderful’ here is the word you want to focus on.
- ‘Wonderful’ means to be surpassing or extraordinary even monsterously large.
- Think adjectives that are huge in comparison when thinking about the magnitude of the word ‘wonderful.’
- So there are good things to come to say the least.
- ‘Good things to come’ that are so incomprehensible and have no similarity to any thing on Planet Earth.
- So, this was the track that I was on as I began crafting this week’s Light on Life podcast.
- Then the Spirit of God spoke up in me and said ‘talk about methods of healing and prayer.’
- So He interrupted me — I’m looking at the future and He is saying deal with the now.
- Okay, let’s do that!
- So, can you see it?
- Can you see that while it’s exciting to talk about the future, and be curious about the Millennial Reign of Jesus, we still have to live in the right here and now.
- There are people today, in the now, who need a touch from God in their physical bodies.
- They need healing and they need to know how to receive it.
Methods or Ways to Receive Divine Healing
- Now, to help us get ready to look at “Methods or Ways to Receive Divine Healing’, here are some divine healing facts for your consideration.
- We will give a few of these out this week and few more in subsequent weeks.
- Here’s divine healing fact number one.
Sickness is no more natural than sin. God made all things very good.
Genesis 1:31 (ESV) — 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
God did not create sickness because sickness is not good. Therefore, we should not look for the remedy of sin or sickness in the natural, but from God who created us happy, strong, healthy, and to fellowship with Him.
- So, when we look at the Word of God for methods of divine healing — you will find that none of them are natural.
- Healing starts on the inside and works itself to the outside.
- Did you ever notice when you dealt with sickness that you knew when you were pulling out of it because you sensed energy from inside of you?
- Surely you have heard a person ask the question ‘Are you feeling better?’
- There’s a sense inside of you that you are doing well.
- Here’s how to locate it.
- When you wake from sleep at night, learn to check inside of you.
- Don’t check your body — check your spirit.
- Your spirit knows things your body doesn’t know.
- Another way of saying this is your spirit is ahead of your body.
- Learn to check inside.
- It’s almost like a switch that turns on, and you sense energy.
Romans 8:11 (ESV) — 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
- Have you heard somebody say something along this line.
“I need my coffee to wake up.” “You don’t want to talk to me before I had my morning coffee.”
- How about?
“Too much morning, not enough coffee.” Or “Coffee before talkie, please.”
- I mean they’ve gotten quite creative about this.
“Change the world, start with coffee.” “I will start working when my coffee does.” Or, “I’m not addicted to coffee, we are in a committed relationship.”
- They’ve even pulled Jesus into this.
“Coffee get’s me going. Jesus keeps me going.” “Inhale the aroma of coffee and exhale the Presence of Jesus.”
- We laugh and joke about it. Ha, ha, funny, funny.
- But can I tell you, it’s cute but it’s carnal.
- I need my coffee to get going is babyhood Christianity — that’s what it is.
- No, you don’t need coffee to get you going, you don’t need anything to get you going — Jesus is your source, period.
- Here’s what you really need.
- You need the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
- You need the Holy Spirit giving life to your mortal body — that’s what you need.
- The coffee bean is no substitute for the Holy Ghost.
- His quickening ability needs no help.
- You’re looking to the bean instead of the blessing.
- You want to know why people are weak in faith?
- Because we build these dependencies in our life’s and use these natural crutches to get us through.
- They you have to trust a coffee bean to get them through a portion of their life.
- How about ‘all I need is Jesus’ — me and Jesus — me and the Holy Ghost.
- Now, I drink and enjoy my coffee.
- It is not a co-dependent relationship.
- I don’t drink it to get going.
- Rather, I drink it because research has shown that the polyphenols in coffee has health benefits.
- Did you also know that those health benefits [and we are talking healing today] including increased mental cognition [in other words, if you’re forgetting stuff, drink coffee] are more pronounced [it’s a step up] if you drink coffee in the morning than if you do in the afternoon or evening.
- Something about ‘morning coffee’ that’s really good for your body.
- So drink it [if you like it] because it’s good not because you’re dependent.
- Depend on God.
- Is it possible that there could be some other adjustments that you can make to work in line with the way God made your body to function?
- Now understand, this is not a ‘one size fits all discussion.’
- What I am talking about may not work for you.
- Here’s a verse that shares a principle that is good to take note of.
Romans 14:1–5 (ESV) — 1 As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. 2 One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. 3 Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. 4 Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.
- So, here Paul starts out talking about the subject of food.
- Two people are compared here: one person eats anything — the other person is a vegetarian.
- Now the issues here is not just food choice but meat sacrificed to idols in ‘little g – God’s temples.
- Compare what you read here in Romans with this set of verse from Corinthians.
1 Corinthians 8:4–13 (ESV) — 4 Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.” 5 For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”— 6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. 7 However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8 Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. 9 But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? 11 And so by your knowledge this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. 12 Thus, sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.
- The issue here in Romans is not food but the conscience.
- The weak brother is weak because he has a weak conscience not because he is eating carrots and broccoli.
- His conscience is not strengthened with the knowledge that idols are nothing and so meat offered to ‘a nothing’ is nothing.
- You see the weak brother is fearful because of the thought that he might be doing something wrong to offend God and so he chooses to become a vegetarian and is considered weak in faith.
- Get what the Word of God said here and don’t add to the plain sense.
- The Lord said, “One person believes he may eat anything.”
- Can you eat anything? — Absolutely!
- But here’s what the scripture did not say — it didn’t say that since you can eat anything that you should be a glutton about it.
- Self-control is always the order of the day.
2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV) — 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
- Self-control means prudence, moderation, or self-discipline.
- Prudence means caution or regard for one’s own interests.
- Shouldn’t you have regard for your body?
- Isn’t that in your best interests?
- But, I see this all the time.
- People with type 2 diabetes, hugely overweight just eating piles of the wrong kind of food.
- Shouldn’t we be willing to adjust our food intake to the needs of our body?
- If you went got a physical and the doctor did blood work and your numbers are off or not optimal, shouldn’t you adjust?
- I mean why did you go get the test, if you are not going to respond to the results?
- Don’t be a slave to your tongue.
- One minister I know was addicted to Coca Cola — I am talking the drink, you know soda or pop — addicted to it.
- Every time he would walk by a certain shop, he would be drawn in there to buy a Coke.
- He couldn’t stop drinking it.
- Then one day he caught himself and said, ‘That’s enough. I’m going to take authority over this, and starting today I will say no to Coca Cola and I will never drink another one as long as I live.’
- He was in his 20’s when he said that.
- As far as I know, he did just exactly that.
- The principle here we are trying to share is the same as the one with the coffee bean — do not let anything rule you.
- We must have enough discipline to say no and put things down.
- If you can’t put it down, there is a problem and that problematic dependence will affect your faith.
- So, you’re in a good place if you’re willing to adjust and put things down when you need to.
- Now, now we come to the mainline in this.
- Paul said, ‘But above all, be fully convinced or persuaded in your own mind.’
- The Greek words ‘should be fully convinced’ is one word in the Greek and it means just that — to be fully certain.
- It is the same word used of Abraham’s faith concerning Sarah.
Romans 4:20–22 (ESV) — 20 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, 21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. 22 That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.”
- Abraham’s faith was counted as righteousness.
- What does that mean?
- It means his faith is the standard — it was completely right.
- He was fully convinced — that’s the same word used in Romans 14:5 on the subject of eating.
- You should live life ‘fully convinced.’
- People offer advice up to me all the time — look at this program, it’s good —we should jump in on this — some guy puts a YouTube video and then all of said this is treated like it’s gospel.
- Maybe it is gospel — maybe it isn’t.
- You should be fully persuaded in your own mind.
- I said ‘fully persuaded — not fully stubborn.’
- There is a difference.
- How do you become fully persuaded?
- Look at the facts.
- Do the research.
- Know why you are allowing what you are allowing.
- Make sure you have good evidence as you can come up with.
- Don’t just live by your taste buds or a single YouTube video.
- Why is this vital?
- Stuff is always changing because we are growing in knowledge.
- What they thought was bad for you 20 years ago is now good for you today.
- People learned.
- The human body is so complex, that doctors are still figuring out how the thing works.
- And with those discoveries, must come changes to what the body needs to function at its highest levels.
- With that thought, here is the Question of the Day.
- Here’s the question.
- Well, what if you discover the information after you’ve already done damage to yourself.
- You didn’t know too much salt jacks up your blood pressure.
- You didn’t know excess sugar feeds cancer.
- You don’t know you needed your heart needs to be more physically active, you thought I work hard at my job that’s enough.
- You see if you were honest before God, I mean, you are trying to do the right thing, your heart is in the right place — you’re living life fully persuaded.
- You’ve established a track record before God of wanting to do the right thing.
- You want to do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.
- I believe you can say to the Lord ‘Lord you know me.’
- ‘You know the way that I take.’
- That’s a Bible verse — try Job 23:10.
Job 23:10 (ESV) — 10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.
- You know that is right — God does know your way.
- ‘Lord, You know if I would have known, I would’ve adjusted.’
- Can you say that?
- “So Lord, I’m asking you to make up the difference for what I honestly didn’t know because the knowledge wasn’t available.”
- Are you a person that you know that you are physical out of shape?
- That your heart beating throughout the day and night is enough to wear you out.
- And that’s why you keeping waking up tired after you slept 7 or 8 hours.
- I heard Keith Moore say this one time.
- He said, and I am paraphrasing here what he said — ‘It’s amazing how little cold’s and flu’s and not feeling right kind of battles that I didn’t have to fight when I got in shape.
- When it comes to some of these areas, I’m telling you, you have to do the work.
- And with that thought, here is the Quote of the Day.
- This quote is from Steven Pressfield who wrote a book called ‘Do the Work.’
Start Before You’re Ready. Don’t prepare. Begin. Remember, our enemy is not lack of preparation; it’s not the difficulty of the project or the state of the marketplace or the emptiness of our bank account. The enemy is Resistance. The enemy is our chattering brain [that’s where the resistance is coming from], which, if we give it so much as a nanosecond, will start producing excuses, alibis, transparent self-justifications, and a million reasons why we can’t/shouldn’t/won’t do what we know we need to do.
- People are looking for a substitutions for doing the work.
- They look to doctors to give them a pill to circumvent doing the work.
- They look to God to give them a miracle so they circumvent doing the work.
- It’s like “Lord heal me despite the fact that my life is a heart attack waiting to happen.”
- Heal me so I can keep living on heart attack alley.
- You have to make adjustments — Jerry Savelle went home to be with the Lord early because he didn’t make adjustments.
- It makes no sense to not quite smoking after you been diagnosed with cancer.
- Makes no sense.
- I’m telling you that mindset pervades.
- I pastored people like this — had type 2 diabetes and still drink huge containers of sugar laced pop — soda whatever you call it.
- I did this person’s funeral — wouldn’t stop.
- Isn’t that kind of thinking abdication of responsibility?
- I learned this principle years ago.
- You may have heard the story — I will repeat it just in case you haven’t.
- But, I was doing a lot of fasting trying to get the gifts of the Spirit to work in my life.
- I lost some weight doing this — and depleted my immune system.
- I got sick and tried to receive my healing.
- I prayed and nothing happened.
- Three days went by and nothing happened.
- I finally said to the Lord, ‘Something is wrong. I’m not getting any better.”
- That’s when I got the answer: The Lord said, ‘Son, if I healed you right now, you would out your front door and the first germ you encounter would jump right back on you and you get sick all over again. Stop fasting.’
- I was so stupid — I argued with the Lord. I didn’t want to stop fasting.
- No sense whatsoever.
- But, I capitulated — and went to the refrigerator and got a class of orange juice, my eyes lightened immediately and I pulled right up out that sickness.
- What was the Lord trying to teach me?
- Don’t tempt the Lord — don’t be the source of the problem.
- Sickness comes from the devil — it should not come because of you.
- So in upcoming podcasts we’re going to take a look at methods for divine healing.
- But, I want you to keep hold of these words ‘be fully persuaded.’
- God loves you and wants you well.
- You need to be fully persuaded of that fact.
- Here’s a brief list of some of these methods.
- We are going to take them up one at a time.
- Knowing and Acting On God’s Word For Yourself.
- Using the Name of Jesus.
- Prayer of Agreement
- Calling for the Elders of the Church
- With any of these methods, you must be fully persuaded.
Now Father God thank you today for your goodness and mercy towards us. You’re such a good God to us. Thank you today for your great love for us whereby you desire us to be healed and whole. We thank you for providing all of these different methods for us methods on different levels whereby we can receive. We look forward to the Holy Spirit opening and unveiling these things to our hearts in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
- God’s Love for You and Methods of Divine Healing.
- You guys have a great God weekend and we will see you next time for another edition of Light on Life.
