Kingdom First? Some Bible Examples of Commitment

In last week’s podcast, we took a look at two Bible examples which illustrated the principle of Kingdom first. One was a positive example in Asa, the other a negative one in the example of Eli. In this week’s episode we are going to look at a few more ‘commitment’ examples, both Old and New Testament people who illustrated by their choices that seeking first the Kingdom of God was the way to live. All this on this week’s Light on Life.

#S4-003: Kingdom First? Some Bible How To Illustrations [Podcast]

The Kingdom of God Series

Putting the Kingdom of God First

Joyce Meyer had this to say about priorities and putting God and His Kingdom first.

There are so many things that clamor for our attention and devotion: our jobs, our kids, our spouses, our hobbies – the demands and distractions of life. And we have to be careful not to let them become more important or more of a priority than our relationship with God.

In this week’s podcast, we will continue to look at the danger of putting family ahead of the Kingdom.

#S4-002: The Danger of Putting Family First Ahead of the Kingdom of God [Podcast]

The Kingdom of God Series

What's your choice, God or family?

What do you think the concept of putting the Kingdom of God first means? How do you do it? If you remember from last week’s podcast, Jesus gave a Kingdom parable about a Great Feast where everyone who was initially invited to it refused to come. The excuses they gave for turning down the invitation fell into two categories, money and family. We already looked at the first excuse, money. Today, we are going to begin to look at the second which is family.

#S4-001: What Does Priorities in the Kingdom of God Look Like? [Podcast]

The Kingdom of God Series

What are our main priorities in life. Is it God or money?

There’s no better verse on the subject of priorities than Matthew 6:33, Seek first the kingdom of God. Here are some quotes which echo the thought that priorities will help us to live spiritually successful lives.

Lewis Sperry Chafer, referring to a friend who was devoting most of his time and energy in pursuit of an insignificant matter, said, “He reminds me of a bulldog chasing a train: what’s he going to do with it if he catches it?” 1 When Charles E. Hummell was going into the ministry, a businessman gave him an excellent piece of advice. “Be careful that the urgent doesn’t crowd out the important.” 2 Put first things first and we get second things thrown in: Put second things first and we lose both first and second things. 3

Let’s take a look today, in this week’s Light on Life, at what God says our priorities should be when it comes to the Kingdom of God.

#S3-052: Why Faith Demands the Eviction of Ishmael [Encore Podcast]

America is known as the land of the free and the home of the brave. When we think of America we think of the concepts of liberty and freedom. These values are fundamental to our nation. Our desire for freedom is so great that Patrick Henry word’s “Give me liberty or give me death” still ring in our ears. Freedom is a big thing in America but it’s even a bigger thing in God. Jesus told us plainly, ‘You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free (Jn. 8:32).’ That’s what The Year of Jubilee represents, freedom. But in order to be really free, Ismael, or Ishy for short, has to go.

#S3-051: How to Locate Your God Ordained Place [Encore Podcast]

Josh McDowell told this great story. An executive hirer, a “headhunter” who goes out and hires corporation executives for other firms, once told me, “When I get an executive that I’m trying to hire for someone else, I like to disarm him. I offer him a drink, take my coat off, then my vest, undo my tie, throw up my feet and talk about baseball, football, family, whatever until he’s all relaxed. Then, when I think I’ve got him relaxed, I lean over, look him square in the eye and say, “What’s your purpose in life?” It’s amazing how top executives fall apart at that question. “Well, I was interviewing this fellow the other day, had him all disarmed, with my feet up on his desk, talking about football. Then I leaned up and said, ‘What’s your purpose in life, Bob?’ And he said, without blinking an eye, ‘To go to heaven and take as many people with me as I can.’ For the first time in my career, I was speechless.” What about you? Do you know what your place is in God? Do you know how to find it?

#S3-050: Four Reasons Why You Have More Authority than the Enemy [Podcast]

The Kingdom of God Series

“Religion prepares man to leave earth; the Kingdom empowers man to dominate it”, so says, Myles Munroe. There are reasons why we can use God given authority in our everyday life. The Bible gives us four of them in the New Testament. In the mouth of two or three witnesses, every word is established (Deuteronomy 17:6, and Matthew 18:16). So, we can be absolutely positive of our position in Christ. That’s what we are talking about in this week’s Light On Life.

#S3-049: Why It’s Tremendously Important to Take Your Stand [Podcast]

Defending Your Bean Patch

One unknown writer wrote these words. “We will never cease to be plagued with sin, but we will never again be brought under the dominion of sin.” 1 You must understand that the very reason why we are not in the Garden of Eden today is because there was a child of the King who was given dominion by the King and he chose not to use it. He refused to take a stand. That’s why we have the sin mess in the first place. Taking your stand and using your God give dominion is a key issue in the Kingdom of God. Jesus said so (Lk. 11:20).

#S3-048: The Great Need to Flow in the Authority of God [Podcast]

The Kingdom of God Series

The upsurge in astrological interest is unmistakable evidence of moral and social decay. Occultism rises ominously in times of world turmoil, religious apostasy, and moral decline. So says Chuck Swindoll. 1 While there may be a rise in demon activity on planet earth, there also is a rise of believers in Jesus who know their authority in Christ and are using it. Maybe you don’t know that Jesus made you an authorized one or maybe you do know but you have cooled off in this area. If so, getting back to the Word in this area is the source of our life and victory.

#S3-047: Why the Lordship of Jesus Is the Linchpin of Kingdom Authority [Podcast]

The Kingdom of God Series

The Lordship of Jesus is central to the Kingdom of God. In fact, uttering these very words was exactly how you received the new birth. You and I weren’t always Kingdom citizens. There came a point in your life when you said yes to Jesus. It came by the ministry of the Holy Spirit. It came by the obedience of a human vessel who witnessed to you the message of the Kingdom. It came because the faith which only comes from God came up in you. Do you remember those days? The days before you met Jesus? The days when you wandered around in the world of men? What were those days like? We don’t need all particulars. There’s no need to list all your sins because they are under the Blood anyway. But, Paul wrote us a letter anyway and told us what those days were like.

#S3-046: How Important in the Kingdom of God Are the Kings Kids? [Podcast]

The Kingdom of God Series

In Second Kings 10 and verse, thirteen Jehu meets with the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah. Because these people are unknown to Jehu, he asks these people Who are you? They answered with these words, ‘We are the brethren of Ahaziah; and we go down to salute the children of the king.’ The children of the King is what we are talking about in this week’s Light on Life. We are going to talk some more about the Kingdom of God. We are going to focus our attention on the children of the King or the King’s kids. The Kingdom of God and Kinship: The King and His Kids.

The Kingdom of God Series: Citizenship in the Kingdom - Taking Your Role Seriously

Henry Drummond, a scientist at the turn of the century, speaking to a group of college students said these words. “Gentlemen, I beseech you to seek the kingdom of God first, or not at all. I promise you a miserable time if you seek it second.” 1 These are wise words on our golden text. The most fun you will ever have in God is being directly in the center of His will and His will is to seek the Kingdom of God first. In this week’s podcast, we take a look what the Kingdom of God will end up looking like and, because of how it does, why you should take your role as a citizen of God’s Kingdom seriously.
