Have you experienced divine healing from the hand of God? Do you know that this blessing is available for you? In the Pentecostal Evangel church leader George-O. Wood writes: Have you ever heard a healing take place? [Listen to the word ‘heard’ — this illustration is about hearing a miracle take place not seeing one take place] I have. I listened to an audiotape of Duane Miller teaching his Sunday school class from the text of Psalm 103 at the First Baptist Church in Brenham, Texas, on January 17, 1993. Duane prematurely retired from pastoring three years earlier because of a virus which penetrated the myelin sheath around the nerves in his vocal cords, reducing his speech to a raspy whisper. Teaching his class that day with a special microphone resting on his lips, he reaffirmed his belief in divine healing and that miracles had not ended with the Book of Acts. Listening to the tape, at times, you can barely understand his weakly spoken wheezy words of faith. The miracle happened at [when he read] verse 4 [Psalm 103:4 says ‘who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with stedfast love and mercy] when he said, “I have had and you have had in times past ‘pit’ experiences.” [Put the word ‘pit’ in brackets or quotes — that is, you have had experiences where you needed God to get you out of the ‘pit’ of despair] On the word ‘pit’ [when he spoke the word ‘pit’] his life changed — the word was as clear as a bell, in contrast to the imperfect enunciation of the preceding word[s] past. He paused, startled; began again and stopped. He said a few more words—all in a normal clear tone — and stopped again. The class erupted with shouts of joy, astonishment, and sounds of weeping. God completely healed him as he was declaring the truth in this psalm. (You can read the full account in Miller’s book Out of the Silence, Nelson Publishers.)1 This Sunday School teacher experienced divine healing. Can I tell you that this podcaster, a former pastor and now a Sunday School teacher, experienced divine healing as well! And, here’s what you should know. You can as well. How You Can Remarkably Experience Jesus Powerful Healing Touch, that’s our focus on today’s edition of Light on Life.

Father God, thank you that by Jesus you have made divine healing available for all of us. We give you the praise and the glory for it. Help us to undertsnad and know how to recieve so that we can experince divine healing from your hands. We give you all the glory and honor for that in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
To Experience Healing Know It Is a Statute and a Rule
- In a previous podcast, we gave you a few divine healing facts.
- So, as we continue to look at the subject of divine healing, we wanted to give you a few more divine healing facts you can meditate and chew on.
- These facts come from a section in the book named ‘Healing the Sick’ by Brother T.L. Osborn.
- T.L. and his wife Daisy preached the gospel in 90 different countries with crowds as high as 300,000 people.
- There were an astounding number of miracles in his ministry!
- They had them by the bushel basket loads of them.
- The book ‘Healing the Sick,’ has sold one million copies in English alone.
- Check out these divine healing facts.
When God called His children out of Egypt, He made a covenant of healing with them — [that’s] Exodus 15:26; 23:25. Throughout history, we find them in sickness and in pestilence, turning to God in repentance and confession; and, always, when their sins were forgiven, their sicknesses were healed.2
Exodus 15:22–26 (ESV) — 22 Then Moses made Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. 24 And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, 26 saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”
- Healing is a statute and a rule.
- The Hebrew word for ‘statute’ means a law.
- Healing is a result of loyalty and obedience to God.
- The Hebrew word for ‘rule’ — he made for them a statute and a rule — means again a law.
- So, both words statute and rule mean ‘a law.’
- This is how this scripture reads: God made for them a law and a law: meaning this is a double emphasis.
- Healing is a law.
- God’s laws are righteous, are they not?
- Watch how this transfers over to the New Testament.
- In The New Testament, Jesus is our righteousness and we are in Him.
- So, healing is a law both in the Old Testament and the New.
- “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put [or permit] none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”
- Doesn’t this sound like Proverbs four?
Proverbs 4:20–22 (ESV) — My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.
Experience Healing: By Looking at Jesus Lifted Up
- Here’s another divine healing fact!
God healed those who were bitten by fiery serpents as they looked at a brazen serpent on a pole, which is a type of Calvary. [You will find that account in Numbers 21:8]. If everyone who looked at the brazen serpent was healed then, it is logical that everyone who looks at Jesus now can be healed. [I mean if you can look at the type of Jesus and be healed, why could you look at Jesus himself and be healed. He’s the real deal, not just the type.] They did not need to beg nor make an offering to God to be healed of the poisonous snakes then. There was only one condition: when they look. We do not need to beg nor make an offering to Christ today. There is only one condition: whoever believes.3
- So, the brazen serpent lifted up on a pole in the wilderness is an Old Testament type of healing fact for us.
- Here is the New Testament fulfillment of the type.
John 3:14 (ESV) — 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
- So, Jesus connects His crucifixion — Him being lifted up on a cross with the serpent being lifted up in the wilderness.
- When the Israelites looked at the serpent lifted up on a pole, they were healed.
- There is salvation when you look at Jesus.
Experience Healing By Understanding the Word Salvation
- Salvation doesn’t just mean being born-again and going to heaven.
- The Greek word ‘save’ is the word ‘sozo.’
- The Greek word ‘salvation’ is ‘soteria’ and with that thought, here is the Definition of the Day.
- The Greek word ‘salvation’ or ‘save’ means…
to deliver from a particular perilous situation, a mortal danger. This deliverance, this salvation, is spoken of with respect to all the dangers of an earthly pilgrimage.
- The first danger is to be lost in your sins.
- In The New Testament, ‘sozo’ and ‘soteria’ consist first of all of deliverance from sins. “The gospel is God’s power for salvation. — Romans 1:16.
- After deliverance from sin, the most common usage of sōtēria, sōzō, is medical: to save means to heal a disease; remedies are saviors.
- You understand that a ‘health condition’ could be a mortal danger.
- Salvation is not merely deliverance but also protection and preservation.
- The words ‘save’ or ‘salvation’ can be translated to mean to leave alive, to protect and pardon, to preserve from misery, to remain safe and sound, to subsist, with a nuance of security.
- Now in the world of secular Greek, [we are looking at the world of Biblical Greek] sōzō and sōtēria means the same thing — deliverance, protection, healing, health, happiness, and prosperity.
Mark 5:22–23 (ESV) — 22 Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet 23 and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.”
- The word ‘well’ here in “Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well” is the Greek lemma sozo.
- Again, there is salvation when you look at Jesus.
To Experience Healing Know that Sickness Comes from Satan.
- Here’s another divine healing fact.
Sickness is revealed as coming directly from Satan. “So Satan went forth and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to his crown” (Job 2:7). Job maintained steadfast faith as he cried out to God for deliverance, and he was healed. (Job 42:10,12.) Jesus declared that the infirm woman was bound by Satan and ought to be loosed. He cast out the “spirit of infirmity,” and she was healed (Luke 13:16). A devil which possessed a man was the cause of his being both blind and dumb. When the devil was cast out, he could both see and talk. [that’s] Matthew 12:22. A demon was the cause of a boy being deaf and dumb and also the cause of his convulsions. When the demon was cast out, the boy was healed. (Mark 9:17–27.)4
- To experience healing, know that sickness comes from Satan.
- This is an absolute Bible fact — sickness comes from Satan.
- And since it does, it must be resisted.
- Everything that comes from Satan must be resisted.
James 4:7 (ESV) — 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
- In the cases, described above, cast out the devil and the sickness goes along with it.
- Saying this a different way, when devils leave, diseases leave.
- So, that’s just a few divine healing facts.
- Meditate on those facts.
- Look up the scriptures.
- Again, in subsequent podcasts, we will share some more facts from this ‘One Hundred Healing Facts’ list.
The Leper’s Experience with Healing
Mark 1:40–42 (ESV) — 40 a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.” 41 Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, “I will; be clean.” 42 And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean.
- In a previous podcast, we mentioned two things to take notice of in this account where the Leper experienced divine healing.
- First, the leper came in contact with the touch of Jesus.
- Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him.
- Second, the leper came into contact with Jesus willingness to heal.
- Jesus said in answer to the statement ‘If you will, you can make me clean.’
- The Savior said, ‘I will — be clean.’
- We said that Jesus touching the leper so that he could be healed, that action, has a name.
- It is called ‘laying on of hands.’
Hebrews 6:1–3 (ESV) — 1 Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do if God permits.
- We see this method of ministering healing to people quite a bit in Jesus ministry.
Matthew 9:18 (ESV) — 18 While he [Jesus] was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.”
Mark 7:32 (ESV) — 32 And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged him to lay his hand on him.
- You see Jesus had a reputation for healing people via laying hands on people.
- People even went to the point of begging Him to do it which implies that was common practice for Jesus.
- What is laying on of hands all about anyway?
- Laying on of hands is where the person ministering healing touches the person who needs healing according to Mark 16:18.
Mark 16:18 (ESV) — 18 … they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
- In most cases, the forehead of the person being praying for is where the contact takes place.
- What is this touching on the forehead business?
- The touch is a point of contact where the person who needs healing releases their faith.
- So if you are the one needing healing, when you are touched, when hands are laid on you, that’s your cue to reach out from your spirit and receive from God.
- Don’t focus on the touch — focus on God.
- We said in that previous podcast, it’s like ‘on your mark, get ready, touch.’
- Get ready, get set, touch — believe.
- Get ready, get set, touch — receive.
- Get ready, get set, touch, — appropriate as your own.
- Get ready, get set means you [the person needing healing] releases your faith at the point of contact.
- Here’s where people miss it — that is they fail to receive healing when prayed for.
- They are expecting ‘the touch’ to heal them.
- The touch won’t heal you — God is the healer.
- They are expecting the other person’s faith to heal them — the person praying is not the healer, God is the healer.
- If you wait for the other person’s faith to do the job, you will not be healed.
- You have to believe.
- You have to receive.
- Do you understand?
- If there is no faith released by the person needing healing, they leave that prayer with the same condition intact.
- No healing takes place.
- Now, here’s the other side, if they release their faith, the healing begins immediately at the point of contact.
- Now if that person leaves that place of prayer and doesn’t have actions consistent with what they say they believe, they will lose their healing.
- Healed people act healed.
- Healed people are not in bed at 10 AM because they are sick.
- They are up and doing.
- Now understand that the physical condition they have may prohibit complete movement and full functionality.
- But, they are headed that way.
- In their heart, they see themselves doing.
- If your back is bad, I’d be endeavoring to bend over — that’s stepping out on God.
- Healed people can bend over because they are fully convinced that God’s Word is true.
- Have some kind of action that would be considered normal for you.
- Do something you couldn’t do, that you would normally do because you believe God‘s power is working in you enabling you to do it.
- That’s putting pressure on the Word.
- That’s acting on the Word.
- Do you think God can handle the pressure?
- Do you think the Word will hold up?
Matthew 24:35 (ESV) — 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
- Are you kidding me?
- You’re pulling my leg, right?
- Okay, now get this.
- That person that you prayed for leaves that place where they released their faith and says that they feel no better the next day.
- Now, first is this even possible.
- Here’s what I mean: is it possible that you really released your faith when hands are laid on you that you can not have improvement the next day.
- It is not possible.
- The healing power IS working in your body.
- It has to be be — lay hands on the sick and they will recover.
- That’s a Bible fact.
- So, now, what?
- Now is where you remind yourself of what God said.
Romans 9:30–33 (ESV) — 30 What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness did not succeed in reaching that law. 32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, 33 as it is written, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”
- He who believes will not be put to shame.
- These Gentiles attained to righteousness — of course means they were being saved.’
- They attained salvation because they pursued it by faith.
- Your pursuit of salvation must be the same way, by faith.
- Your pursuit of healing must be the same way, by faith.
- Receiving any good thing from God requires faith.
- Faith is not feelings.
- Feelings is not faith.
- The question is never how do you feel?
- The question should always be what do you believe?
- So, if you wake up the next day and you think you don’t ’feel better’ — the question must be ‘what do you believe?’
- The battle is won or lost right here.
- The temptation that the enemy will present to you — that you are going to have to deal with is ‘the prayer for healing didn’t work since I don’t feel better?’
- Here’s what you need to know, your feelings will catch up to your faith.
- Are you saying my feelings are telling you that God’s Word that heaven and earth will pass away before His word does, didn’t work?
- Who said it didn’t work.
- Who said God’s Word didn’t work?
- Who said God’s Word failed?
- Your feelings?
Experience Healing: My Testimony of Healing
- Now, you’ve heard my testimony.
- The Lord healed me of sleep apnea in April of 2007, that’s almost 18 years ago.
- The Lord said to me, ‘You’re healed.’
- I was standing in my bedroom.
- I examined what I heard by the Word.
- Yes that’s right, I am healed.
- First Peter two and verse twenty-four says.
1 Peter 2:24 (ESV) — He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
- Well, if I was healed, then I am healed.
- I continued to reason inside the Word.
- Well, if I am healed then I don’t need that machine.
- I slept with the aid of that machine for seven years.
- I went to sleep without that machine based on what God said.
- You know I faced the possibility of death that night.
- People die because of sleep apnea.
- Well, I didn’t die I slept.
- You’ve heard me say it — ‘from that day to this, I have never gone back to the machine.’
- Now, I never went o get tested to see if I was healed.
- What for?
- The Lord said I was healed.
- Sharon volunteered that she noticed a change in my breathing.
- The next night came and I did the same thing — went to sleep without that machine.
- Now here’s the thing that I didn’t share with you.
- Don’t you think that on nights where I didn’t have a good sleep that I was tempted to go back and get the machine and hook it up?
- You bet you I was.
- You see, faith doesn’t stop — you don’t stop believing.
- Don’t relax your faith — that’s not a good thing.
- It was several years before I got rid of the machine.
- On certain non restful nights, the temptation was there.
- I never touched that machine — I finally gave it away.
- At the point of temptation, the battle is won or lost.
- Do you want to know why people die after you prayed for them?
- Jesus gave you the answer, ‘He marveled because of their unbelief.’
- So, your feelings are not always the best source of information.
James 1:2–7 (ESV) — 2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Experience Healing: Some Helpful ‘Laying on of Hands’ Facts
- When someone lays hands on you, it’s not good taste to check to see if you’re healed.
- Instead, do something you couldn’t do before.
- Be careful of the temptation to see if God’s Word is true.
- You should know it’s true — you should be fully persuaded.
- If you are endeavoring to receive your healing, don’t get your eyes on the person praying for you or laying hands on you.
- No matter how powerfully anointed the person is who is praying, who is laying their hands on you, you will not be healed if you don’t believe you receive.
- Your faith will draw on that anointing and it will flow into your body.
- Your faith will make you well.
- You must pull on your healing — do you understand?
- Healing is a ‘you and God’ transaction.
- Don’t focus on the hand.
- Don’t focus on the person.
- Focus on God.
- Receive from Him.
- Now, I have put in the podcast notes several ‘laying on of hands’ scriptures.
- Here they are.
Experience Healing: Laying on of Hands Scriptures
Hebrews 6:1–2 (ESV) — Shows laying on of hands as a fundamental principle of Christ. Mark 5:22–23 — 42 (ESV) — Jesus lays His hands on Jairus’ daughter Mark 6:5 (ESV) — Jesus lays His hands on a few sick people in Nazareth. Mark 7:32–35 (ESV) — Jesus lays His hands on a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment. Mark 8:22–25 (ESV) — Jesus lays His hands on a blind man after he spit on his eyes. Mark 16:18 (ESV) — Laying on of hands is a command to all believers. Acts 5:12 (ESV) — Signs and wonders were done by the disciples hands. Acts 19:11–12 (ESV) — God did extraordinary miracles by laying on of hands. Acts 28:8–9 (ESV) — Paul lays His hands on Publius who was suffering from a fever and dysentery.
Now, Father God, thank you for the Doctrine of Laying on of Hands. It’s a marvelously wonderful doctrine and we thank you for making it available to us in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
- Now, you know what to do.
- If you need to be healed today, call for your pastor or one of the ministers in your church and ask them to lay hands on you.
- And when they touch you believe you receive healing.
- Why Being Free from Disease is Available for You.
- You guys have a great God week and we will see you next time for another edition of Light on Life.
