Why Being Free from Disease Is Available for You

Podcast: Light on Life Season Twelve Episode Six

Why Being Free from Disease Is Available for You

Being free from disease is our point of concentration today. God wants His people well and whole. That means you! Has that realization set in? Did you also know that there are multiple ways or methods by which you can receive? God the Father, God the ultimate Father wants YOU free from sickness and disease. Isn’t that the heart of any good parent, for their kids to be healthy, wealthy, and wise? Where do you think that desire originated from in the first place? The scripture declares to us that every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from God the Father. The Word of God further declares, in the book of Acts, that Jesus went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. Healing is a good thing. It’s a good God thing. And here’s what you should realize. This good thing is your thing. It’s for you and God has provided multiple methods by which you can receive His healing touch. So in this week’s podcast, let’s jump into “Why Being Free from Disease Is Available for You,” all on this week’s Light on Life.

Prayer

  • Well again, welcome.
  • Let’s pray.

Father God thank you for Jesus. By the stripes of Jesus we were healed. That’s what your Word says. We accept it. We believe we receive it in Jesus Precious Name, Amen.

Free from Disease: The Healing Flow Requires Men to Speak Up

Acts 10:34–38 (ESV) — 34 So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, 35 but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. 36 As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all), 37 you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

  • There are several ‘good news’ items in today’s passage.
  • Can you use some good news today?
  • Surely you can.
  • First, there’s the fact that Peter spoke up with a boldness declaring the truth about Jesus.
  • In the Body of Christ today, there’s a need for such fearless people.
  • Jesus Himself taught us to pray for people that will speak up.

Matthew 9:35–38 (ESV) — And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

  • Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages.
  • The larger populations would be the cities, the smaller populations would be the villages.
  • Large city or small village, just know that everybody is important to Jesus — you are important to Jesus.
  • That’s good news.
  • In these large and small places, Jesus taught — taught means He spoke up.
  • In these places, Jesus proclaimed — proclaimed means He spoke up.
  • The Lord needs you to speak up.
  • The result of speaking up was the healing of every disease and affliction in those crowds of people.
  • Jesus felt compassion.
  • Compassion speaks.
  • The term ‘every’ is vital.
  • Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, healing every disease and every affliction.
  • ’Every’ disease included everyone.
  • Jesus excludes no one.
  • ‘Every’ disease means no case was too small for God’s attention.
  • It also means no case was too difficult for His ability.
  • But, can you see that all of Jesus singular efforts were not enough?
  • No one can be a one man show simply because there are too many people on Planet Earth.
  • God needs outspoken people.
  • The Lord needs you.
  • Three pieces were integral to Jesus’ ministry: teaching, preaching, and healing.
  • He engaged in these components every day.
  • Every day Jesus taught — every day He preached — every day He healed men.
  • But, Jesus never ceasing engagement wasn’t enough to reach everyone.
  • So, there’s always an answer to every problem.
  • How could there be an unsolvable when Jesus is the way?
  • ‘Okay, Jesus, what’s the answer?’
  • Listen to it now: ‘pray earnestly that the Lord of the harvest would send laborers into the harvest.’
  • The words ‘pray earnestly’ is one word in the Greek and it means to ask for with urgency, with the implication of presumed need1
  • How do we fulfill this Jesus directive?
  • How do we come to a place where what we are talking to God about is full of the fire of urgency?
  • Do we just work up urgency?
  • You know, work something up inside and push words out of our mouth with energy or loudness?
  • Could the ‘praying earnestly’ piece come from the fact that you took the time to look at the harvest?
  • That you took the time to see and understand the great need and have some deep feelings about it all?
  • And with that thought, here is the Question of the Day.
  • Does Jesus example inspire you along these lines?

John 4:31–35 (ESV) — 31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.

  • Wouldn’t it be easy to understand how prayer would become earnest and heart-felt if we took the time to understand the harvest and how many lost people there are?
  • According to https://versesandprayers.com/what-percentage-of-the-world-has-heard-about-jesus/, 42% of the world’s population is unreached.
  • Eight billion times 42% equates to 3.36 billion people.
  • That’s a lot of lost people.
  • Jesus instructs His disciples to pray that the Father God would provide laborers for the harvest.
  • This kind of praying is part of bringing Jesus back to Planet Earth.
  • It’s part of the Second Coming.

Matthew 24:14 (ESV) — 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

  • These laborers that must be prayed for would go to parts of the world Jesus never visited during His time on Planet Earth.
  • He didn’t go to those places because He wasn’t called to go to those places.

Matthew 15:24 (ESV) — 24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

  • Now, why didn’t Jesus pray a blanket prayer to God the Father Himself?
  • I mean, if anyone had a hotline connection to heaven, it was Jesus.
  • One reason is because bringing lost men to Jesus is a cooperative venture.
  • God chose, in His great wisdom, the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
  • Every generation must reach the generations for Jesus.
  • That means every generation must pray for laborers because that’s part of the process.
  • In every generation, there’s a debit.
  • Every generation of men has more harvest than harvesters.
  • Each generation has more souls to be saved than saints willing to get them saved.
  • Every generation has more disciples to be discipled than disciple-ers.
  • God needs you — you are essential to God’s plan — there are no unused members.
  • Preaching, teaching, healing and, this fourth component, laborers will get the job done.
  • Get to talking to God about laborers.
  • Ask Him to raise up armies of preachers, teachers, and healers.
  • If you want to get the gospel out on every available channel, then praying for soul-winning, harvest-working, laborers is one avenue.
  • So, Peter, as a harvest-working laborer, as a predominately Jewish soul-winner ‘opened his mouth’ to preach to some Gentiles.
  • Aren’t you glad that one day God sent a Peter type person into your life?
  • This Peter type person appeared on the scene, and they didn’t arrive empty-handed.
  • They had a message for YOU.
  • They had good news for YOU.
  • And they shared it.
  • You got saved — you got healed.
  • I thank God for Mark.
  • Mark was a student at the same college I attended and he prayed to the God of Heaven, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, saying to Him, “I’ve studied the Bible for a year and I’m ready to tell somebody about Jesus — send that person to me.”
  • I walked in the next day.
  • Next year, 2026, will be fifty years of walking with Jesus.
  • Are you willing to pray, “Lord, I’m ready to tell somebody about Jesus send him or her my way.”
  • To experience salvation and it’s benefits like healing, men must speak up.

Free from Disease: God is Impartial

  • Here’s the second piece of good news.
  • Peter opened his mouth and said: “I understand God shows no partiality.”
  • That’s again, Acts 10:34.
  • Aren’t you glad that God is the same straight-shooter with all men?
  • Aren’t you happy that the same set of salvation requirements exist for all?
  • The Father God doesn’t possess a two-tiered system of justice.
  • God’s righteousness is one size fits all.
  • It doesn’t matter if you are a Jew, or a Gentile, male, or female.
  • God shows no partiality.
  • The message is the same for all.

Free from Disease: Jesus Healed All

  • The third ‘good news’ piece is that Jesus went about doing good and healing ‘all’ that were oppressed of the devil for God was with Him.
  • That’s Acts 10:38.
  • As we are looking at this, put the emphasis on the word ‘all.’
  • The word ‘all’ implies again no partiality.
  • Now, in the gospels, there are 23 individual cases of healing.
  • In this series, we are gonna look at several of these individual cases and ascertain the methods by which these men and women were healed.
  • Think about these cases of healing and ask yourself this question.

Did Jesus ever tell anybody in any place in the gospels, ‘No, healing is not for you? ‘No, it’s not my will to heal you?’ Did Jesus ever say that?

  • Check out the 23 cases.
  • I am going to put them in the podcast notes for you.
  • If you check these passages out, that is read them, you will see that the answer to that question is no — you cannot find Jesus saying, ‘No, healing is not for you or ‘No, it’s not my will to heal you?’ to anyone, anywhere in the gospels.
  • It’s plain to see that the will of God is that everyone be healed.

Free from Disease: Individual Cases of Healing

  • Now, again there are 23 individual cases of healing in the scripture.
  • Individual means a single person — sometimes there were two people distinctly mentioned whom Jesus ministered to one on one if you would.
  • These are 23 unique individual cases.
  • Several of these unique cases appear in multiple gospels.
  • For example, a leper came to Jesus one day to receive healing.
  • Mark and Luke both record this same healing.
  • Even though they do, that is still just one case.
  • Now, some of these cases appear in just one gospel.
  • The story of the Lame Man at the Pool of Bethesda is only in the Gospel of John.
  • In Jesus ministry, there many mass healings.
  • These mass healings are not individual cases — these are mass healing cases.
  • We’re going to include these mass healing references as well.
  • Look these up in your own Bible.
  • Read these accounts.
  • Maybe you would to mark these passages in your Bible.
  • Whatever you do, don’t let these get away from you.
  • Soak in these stories.
  • Allow them to get down in your spirit.
  • Then, we are going to look at the Book of Acts and the references for individual and mass healings recorded there.
  • Let’s go over the list of healing cases in Jesus’ ministry first.
  • Here they are.

  23. Man Born Blind — John 9:1–33.
  • That’s 23 individual cases of healing in the ministry of Jesus.
  • He ministered 3 1/2 years and so that’s about what 7 individual cases a year.
  • Let’s take these cases up one at a time and look at the methods of healing and there connection to prayer.
  • Of course, there is no way we can cover all these in the rest of this podcast.
  • So, we will disconnect when time runs out and pick it up in a subsequent podcast.

Free from Disease: Healing Cases In Jesus’ Ministry, The Leper

  • Case one: Jesus heals a leper.
  • That’s Mark 1:40–42, Luke 5:12–14.

Mark 1: 40–42 (ESV) — 40 And a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.” 41 Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, “I will; be clean.” 42 And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean.

  • So, this leper came to Jesus saying to Him, ‘If you will, you can make me clean.’
  • Jesus said, ‘I will, you be clean.’
  • We already mentioned that Jesus never said, “I will not heal you.” to any individual or group of individuals during His entire time on planet Earth.
  • God has provided methods of divine healing for you to access.
  • Why would He provide them if it wasn’t His will for you to have it?
  • It makes little sense, right?
  • You can have an absolutely, positively, no doubt about it, be certain that it’s Jesus will to heal you, kind of faith.
  • God is saying in His Word, that it is ‘my will to heal you.’
  • Your job is to believe that.
  • Failure to do your job here is one reason people fail to receive.

Free from Disease: Failing to Receive

Mark 6:1–6 (ESV) — 1 He went away from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. 2 And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” 5 And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And he marveled because of their unbelief.

  • This set of verses gives us important information on the faith life.
  • It tells us why some people don’t receive.
  • Notice: Jesus could do no mighty work there except He laid His hands on a few sick folk and healed them.
  • Now, we can understand what kind of mighty work Jesus was trying to do.
  • He was not trying to walk on water or turn stones into bread.
  • Those would be considered mighty works.
  • Mighty work is one word in the Greek word and it’s the word ‘dunamis’ which is supernatural power to do miracles.
  • There were people in the audience at Nazareth that had major things wrong with them that to fix those major wrong things would have required ‘supernatural miracle working power’ to flow.
  • And, it didn’t flow.
  • Jesus couldn’t get that power to flow.
  • The scripture didn’t say He wouldn’t — it said he couldn’t!
  • Jesus could not get that power to flow.
  • He couldn’t.
  • Now, it tells you here what He got instead.
  • ‘Except He laid His hands on a few sick folk and healed them.’
  • First, it was a few sick folk not many sick — not all sick folk — just a few.
  • The Greek word ‘sick’ here means sick, ill, or weak.
  • We’re talking head colds, flu, fever, viral stuff — you know sickness that makes people feel depleted.
  • A few of those got healed via laying on of hands.
  • Laying on of hands is one method of healing.
  • So you have a contrast here in Nazareth.
  • There are people in the audience who had major things wrong with them, crippled, paralyzed, blind, deaf, dumb, major stuff wrong in their body and you had people in the same audience who had minor things, flus, colds, viruses etc.
  • All sickness is not the same level.
  • Jesus was trying to get all of them healed but He couldn’t.
  • Why couldn’t He get all of them healed.
  • “He marveled because of their unbelief.”
  • Unbelief shut the dunamis power of God down in Nazareth 2000 years ago and that same unbelief will shut the power down today.
  • Because faith works the same in any generation.
  • Accept what God said and never doubt it no matter what.
  • Think about it.

Free from Disease: Being Fully Persuaded

  • To be free from disease and enjoy any of God’s method of divine healing, you must be fully persuaded concerning God’s will in the matter.

Romans 14:5 (ESV) — 5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.

  • The Greek words ‘should be fully convinced’ is one word in the Greek and it means just that — to be fully certain.
  • It is the same word used of Abraham’s faith concerning Sarah.

Romans 4:20–22 (ESV) — 20 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, 21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. 22 That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.”

  • Abraham’s faith was counted as righteousness.
  • He was fully convinced.
  • We should live life ‘fully convinced.’
  • Sickness comes from the devil.
  • We should live ‘fully convinced’ of that fact.
  • God is saying in His Word, that it is ‘my will to heal you.’
  • Your job is to be fully convinced of that.
  • Fully convinced is the only way to live.
  • God loves you and wants you well.

Free from Disease: By What Method Did the Leper Receive His Healing?

  • We already read it in Mark’s version.
  • Here is Luke’s account.

Luke 5:12–14 (ESV) — 12 While he was in one of the cities, there came a man full of leprosy. And when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and begged him, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” 13 And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him.

  • Two things to notice here.
  • Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, that’s number one.
  • Number two, Jesus said, ‘I will — be clean.’
  • Let’s examine both points, first, Jesus touched him.
  • In the Bible, ‘touching people’ to receive healing is called ‘laying on of hands.’

Matthew 9:18 (ESV) — 18 While he [Jesus] was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.”

Mark 16:18 (ESV) — 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Mark 7:32 (ESV) — 32 And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged him to lay his hand on him.

  • You see Jesus had a reputation for healing people by laying hands on them.
  • These people begged Him to do it which implies that He did this a lot.
  • Now you can lay hands on people for other things besides healing.

Acts 8:18–19 (ESV) — 18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”

  • Here, the disciples were laying hands on people, touching people to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
  • Simon, the sorcerer, saw this and wanted this ability for himself.
  • There are other reasons for laying on of hands — search in your Bible and you will come up with those reasons.
  • Here we are focused the healing aspect of laying on of hands.
  • What is laying on of hands about?
  • Laying on of hands is where the person ministering healing touches the person who needs healing.
  • The touch may or may not be anointed.
  • It doesn’t matter, it will work either way.
  • You’ve got to to get this.
  • In most cases, you touch the forehead of the person you are praying for.
  • What is this touching on the forehead business?
  • The touch is a point of contact where people can release their faith.
  • So if you are the one needing healing, when you are touched, when hands are laid on you, that’s your cue to reach out from your spirit and receive from God.
  • Don’t focus on the touch — focus on God.
  • That’s why I said, ‘it doesn’t matter whether the person ministering healing is anointed or not.’
  • It’s like ‘on your mark, get ready, touch.’
  • Get ready, get set, touch — believe.
  • Get ready, get set, touch — receive.
  • Get ready, get set, touch, — appropriate as your own.
  • Get ready, get set means you [the person needing healing] releases your faith at the point of contact.
  • I said ‘release your faith.’
  • Here’s where people miss it — that is they fail to receive healing.
  • They are expecting ‘the touch’ to heal them.
  • The touch won’t heal you — God is the healer.
  • They are expecting the other person’s faith to heal them — the person praying is not the healer, God is.
  • If you wait for the other person’s faith to do the job, you will not be healed.
  • You have to believe.
  • You have to receive.
  • You have to reel the fish into the boat.
  • Do you understand?
  • Now, sometimes the person praying is anointed with an anointing from God.
  • If you are endeavoring to receive your healing, don’t get your eyes on the person.
  • No matter how powerfully anointed the person is who is praying, who is laying their hands on you, you will not be healed if you don’t believe you receive.
  • Your faith will draw on that anointing and it will flow into your body.
  • Your faith will make you well.
  • You must pull on your healing — do you understand?
  • Healing is a ‘you and God’ transaction.
  • Don’t focus on the hand.
  • Don’t focus on the person.
  • Focus on God.
  • Receive from Him.
  • The manner in which a person lays hands on you means nothing as well.
  • Some people are heavy handed — it doesn’t mean anything.
  • Other’s minister with a light touch; light — heavy — means nothing.
  • Study the doctrine of laying on of hands.
  • It is an elementary doctrine of Christ.
  • Elementary doctrine means ‘laying on of hands’ is basic Christianity.
  • This is where believers start in Jesus.
  • The leper received from Jesus via laying on of hands.
  • The Doctrine of Laying On of Hands is one available method for receiving your healing.
  • We will pick this up next week.
  • I want to talk about the praying part of this individual case where Jesus ministered to this leper.

Now, Father God, thank you for the Doctrine of Laying on of Hands. It’s a marvelously wonderful doctrine and we thank you for making it available to us in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

  • Now, you know what to do.
