Freedom is an enamoring idea. But, as one gentleman said, “Liberty is always unfinished business.” In the earthly sense this is true. The constant struggle for freedom is seen across the globe. But as far as heaven is concerned, the struggle is over. Jesus came to set men free. And free they are, if they only know it. And so the gospel, God’s personal declaration for freedom, goes forward liberating all who embrace it. You can be free. You can experience release at the hands of a supernatural God.

Leviticus 25:8-13 (NCV)
8 “‘Count off seven groups of seven years, or forty-nine years. During that time there will be seven years of rest for the land. 9 On the Day of Cleansing, you must blow the horn of a male sheep; this will be on the tenth day of the seventh month. You must blow the horn through the whole country. 10 Make the fiftieth year a special year, and announce freedom for all the people living in your country. This time will be called Jubilee. You will each go back to your own property, each to your own family and family group. 11 The fiftieth year will be a special time for you to celebrate. Don’t plant seeds, or harvest the crops that grow by themselves, or gather grapes from the vines that are not trimmed. 12 That year is Jubilee; it will be a holy time for you. You may eat only the crops that come from the field. 13 In the year of Jubilee you each must go back to your own property.
What Jubilee Meant
- The passage we read today was about the Feast of Jubilee.
- It occurred once every 50 years.
- All who were bound by debt in Israel were released.
- All who were slaves were set free.
- All who had lost possessions had them restored.
The Season of Jubilee Was Surrounded by Increase
- Did you notice that there were seven sevens associated with Jubilee?
- Every seventh year was a Sabbath of rest for the land.
- A Sabbath of rest meant you would not be allowed to work your field in the seventh year. God said let the land rest.
- How would you eat if you’re not planting?
- How would you prosper if you weren’t reaping?
- Another passage in Leviticus gives us the answer.
Leviticus 25:20-22 (NCV)
20 “‘But you might ask, “If we don’t plant seeds or gather crops, what will we eat the seventh year?” 21 I will send you such a great blessing during the sixth year that the land will produce enough crops for three years. 22 When you plant in the eighth year, you will still be eating from the old crop; you will eat the old crop until the harvest of the ninth year.
- The year before the Jubilee was a seventh year of increase. It was such an increase that it carried them one year on the other side of the Jubilee.
- It was all a supernatural thing set in motion by the courts of heaven.
- Has God changed?
- Isn’t God still a God of increase?
- Can’t the same God who prospered Israel yesterday, elevate your life in an astounding way today?
- The answer to all of that is course, ‘Yes’. You can experience your own season of Jubilee.
- People ask, ‘How do I know that if it’s my season for Jubilee?’
- It’s simple. Watch for the increase.
- If all of sudden, deals are starting to happen for you and all of a sudden, things are falling in place for you, then lift up your head your Jubilee is nigh.
- God programmed blessings into the life of Israel and He has programmed blessings in your life.
- Programmed means, you don’t have to work extra to receive them. Just live life normal.
- That’s what Israel did. They just planted, the year before ever sabbatical year. They went to work just like they always did. Punched the clock, planted the seed and BANG supernatural increase occurred which carried them for two years.
- People ask, ‘What about God’s Word to me? Can’t I get my needs met that way?
- Of course you can.
[Tweet “Has God changed? Can’t the same God who prospered Israel yesterday, elevate your life?”]
Matthew 7:7 (KJV)
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
- Absolutely, you can believe God and trust Him and the covenant will be there to fulfill your needs.
- But haven’t you ever received something from God and you didn’t even pray about it?
- You didn’t believe God for it? You don’t even have a clue about how this good thing happened to you?
- Look at your parents.
- Sometimes you asked them for things and they gave those things to you.
- Other times they just gave you things simply because they loved you.
- Sometimes the Lord will give you things simply because He wants to love on you.
- All of a sudden you can experience increase. All of a sudden you can know freedom.
How Does God Get Freedom and Release to You?
Freedom and Release Comes In His Season
- There are seasons of blessing according to the Bible.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NCV)
1 There is a time for everything, and everything on earth has its special season.
- Notice that Jubilee occurred at a set time. It was not sporadic. It occurred every 50 years. Set you watch. Mark it on the calendar.
- As long as Israel stayed in covenant relation with God, Jubilee was a done deal.
Galatians 6:9 (NLT)
9 So don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.
- KJV states it as ‘in due season’.
- Harvest takes place at a set time, in due season, at the appropriate moment.
- As long as you keep faith in the seed, when you sow in the spring and you reap in the fall.
- God promised Abraham that through him all the families of the earth would be blessed.
Genesis 12:3 (KJV)
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
- This happened at a set time.
- What was the set time? Some two thousand years later after Abraham was long dead and buried.
Galatians 4:4 (NCV)
4 But WHEN THE RIGHT TIME CAME, God sent his Son who was born of a woman and lived under the law.
- Everything that the Lord ever told you or promised will come to pass at a set time.
- Jesus understood the concept of seasons.
- He kept telling people that His time was not yet.
John 7:6 (NCV)
6 Jesus said to his brothers, “THE RIGHT TIME FOR ME HAS NOT YET COME, but any time is right for you.
- His brethren wanted Him to show Himself to the world.
Freedom and Release Comes in the Suddenly’s of God
- In close connection with the idea of seasons is the word ‘suddenly.’
- Suddenly’s can’t be scheduled in your day timer.
- They just happen.
- God’s blessing at times manifest in a sudden way.
- ‘Suddenly’ indicates things in your life are just calm, just ordinary, just same o, same o and then, all of a sudden, BANG blessings manifest.
- Sometimes when the Lord speaks, He speaks suddenly. When He does, BANG things change.
[Tweet “The ‘suddenly’s of God’ can’t be scheduled in your day timer.”]
Num 12:4 (KJV)
4 And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
- Calamity comes to the wicked suddenly. They may seem to be prospering in their sin and then BANG the wicked are destroyed.
Prov 6:15 (KJV)
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
- What about the arrival of Jesus on planet earth?
- We call that the Coming of Jesus.
- Jesus first coming was suddenly.
- In the bristling quietness of a new day, as the birds chirped in the rising of the morning, BANG prophesy was fulfilled.
Malachi 3:1 (KJV)
1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to this temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
- Malachi’s prophecy was fulfilled suddenly.
- What about Jesus Second Coming? Do you think it will be any different?
- You have heard of the Big Bang Theory, haven’t you?
- Well I want you to know man is not the originator of the Big Bang. God is. One day soon, you will turn on your TV to watch the ten o’clock news and then BANG, your gone.
- It’s going to be the biggest BANG the world has ever seen. And it’s going to happen suddenly. Like a thief in the night. Millions of believers will just disappear from planet earth. They’ll be changed. They’ll be transformed. And it will all happen, in the twinkling of an eye (1 Cor. 15:52).
Mark 13:36–37 (KJV)
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
- You don’t have to wait until the Second Coming to experience the suddenly’s of God. Just look at the book of Acts.
- Acts is a model for the church. It’s a model for your life.
- So you’ve been believing God and nothing seems to be happening. That’s what happened in Acts.
- Jesus told the disciples to wait. ‘How long do we wait Jesus?’ He didn’t tell them how many days. He just told them to wait until… Wait until when? Wait until you receive the promise of the Father.
- And so they waited. And so they prayed while they waited in the Upper Room. Then all of a sudden BANG the answer was there.
Acts 2:1-3 (KJV)
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
- Suddenly was a part of the fabric of the church. It’s a part of your life.
- Deliverance from your enemies can come suddenly.
- That includes enemies like ISIS. Take heart dear ones. The God of the BIG BANG is watching and your deliverance draws near.
Acts 9:1–3 (KJV)
1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
- Suddenly God delivered the church. He turned its main persecutor into a believer. That’s God’s way.
- What about deliverance in your life? Are you stuck in situations? Are circumstances weighing you down.
- Deliverance from your prison comes suddenly.
Acts 16:25–26 (KJV)
25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
Freedom and Release Comes Supernaturally
- There is a supernatural element to Christianity.
- It is what separates us from the religions of this world.
- We are a supernatural people serving a supernatural God who does supernatural things.
- Men crave this supernatural element.
- Read about it in the pages of the Holy Bible.
- Israel was delivered supernaturally from Egyptian bondage. You know the story. You’ve read about in Exodus. You’ve seen and heard of it even though it happened thousands of years ago. They’re still making movies about Gods supernatural deliverance.
- What about debt?
- That seems to be a big thing in our land, in our nation, in our families. Controlling debt is huge in our economy.
- Does God show up here in here in this most important area?
- He sure does.
- And how does He do it?
- Why of course, supernaturally.
2 Kings 4:1-7 (NCV)
1 The wife of a man from the groups of prophets said to Elisha, “Your servant, my husband, is dead. You know he honored the LORD. But now the man he owes money to is coming to take my two boys as his slaves!” 2 Elisha answered, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” The woman said, “I don’t have anything there except a pot of oil.” 3 Then Elisha said, “Go and get empty jars from all your neighbors. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go into your house and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and set the full ones aside.” 5 So she left Elisha and shut the door behind her and her sons. As they brought the jars to her, she poured out the oil. 6 When the jars were all full, she said to her son, “Bring me another jar.” But he said, “There are no more jars.” Then the oil stopped flowing.7 She went and told Elisha. And the prophet said to her, “Go, sell the oil and pay what you owe. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
- What about your daily needs, your daily bread? Does God show up there?
- He said He would. He said seek the kingdom of God and all that stuff will be added to your life (Matt. 6:33).
- God gave us a record of His ability in this area.
- Israel was delivered from famine supernaturally.
2 Kings 6:24-25, 32-2 Kings 7:1 (NCV)
24 Later, Ben-Hadad king of Aram gathered his whole army and surrounded and attacked Samaria. 25 There was a shortage of food in Samaria. It was so bad that a donkey’s head sold for about two pounds of silver, and half of a pint of dove’s dung sold for about two ounces of silver… 32The king sent a messenger to Elisha, who was sitting in his house with the older leaders. But before the messenger arrived, Elisha said to them, “See, this murderer is sending men to cut off my head. When the messenger arrives, shut the door and hold it; don’t let him in. The sound of his master’s feet is behind him.” 33 Elisha was still talking with the leaders when the messenger arrived. The king said, “This trouble has come from the LORD. Why should I wait for the LORD any longer?” 2 Kings 7:1 (NCV) 1 Elisha said, “Listen to the LORD’S word. This is what the LORD says: ‘ABOUT THIS TIME TOMORROW seven quarts of fine flour will be sold for two-fifths of an ounce of silver, and thirteen quarts of barley will be sold for two-fifths of an ounce of silver. This will happen at the gate of Samaria.’”
- If you go and read 2 Kings 7, you will see how God used four lepers you ventured to go to the Syrian camp and when they got there, they found no on there. What happened? How did God do this?
2 Kings 7:6–7 (KJV)
6 For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us. 7 Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.
- It all happened just like God said it would.
2 Kings 7:16 (KJV)
16 And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.
- God supplied their daily bread and He will supply yours.
- What about taxes?
- God gets involved with taxes. With the area no one likes to deal with. And He does it supernaturally.
Matthew 17:24-27 (NCV)
24 When Jesus and his followers came to Capernaum, the men who collected the Temple tax came to Peter. They asked, “Does your teacher pay the Temple tax?” 25 Peter answered, “Yes, Jesus pays the tax.” Peter went into the house, but before he could speak, Jesus said to him, “What do you think? The kings of the earth collect different kinds of taxes. But who pays the taxes—the king’s children or others?” 26 Peter answered, “Other people pay the taxes.” Jesus said to Peter, “Then the children of the king don’t have to pay taxes. 27 But we don’t want to upset these tax collectors. So go to the lake and fish. After you catch the first fish, open its mouth and you will find a coin. Take that coin and give it to the tax collectors for you and me.”
Call to Action:
Freedom and release is destined for your life. But how will it come? How will freedom and release come to your life? It will come three ways. It will come in its season. It will come suddenly. It will come supernaturally. The freedom and release principle demonstrated in the Jubilee is part and parcel of God and part and parcel of your life. Expect it. Believe it. Receive it.
