Podcast Notes

Adjustments Which Lead to Presence

Matthew 21:12–14 (NKJV) 12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God…

  • Notice the chain of events which occurred here in Matthew 21.
  • The first word ‘Then’, in ‘Then Jesus went’ refers to the Triumphal entry into Jerusalem where the people laid the palm branches and shouted Hosanna to the Son of David and Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord.

Matthew 21:8 (NKJV) 8 And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

  • Spreading flowers and branches on the road like a carpet was a sign of respect and honor in ancient times given to conquerors and great princes. 2
  • Here it was an acknowledge of Jesus as king.

2 Kings 9:11–13 (NKJV) 11 Then Jehu came out to the servants of his master, and one said to him, “Is all well? Why did this madman come to you? (a young prophet sent by Elisha)”… So he said, “Thus and thus he spoke to me, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD: “I have anointed you king over Israel.” ’ ” 13 Then each man hastened to take his garment and put it under him on the top of the steps; and they blew trumpets, saying, “Jehu is king!”

  • The next thing Jesus did after He was respected, honored and acknowledged as king was to visit the Temple.
  • What did King Jesus do when He visited the Temple?
  • He made some Temple adjustments.

Matthew 21:12–14 (NKJV) 12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ” 14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.

  • The first two words of the verse, ‘Then Jesus’, means Presence.
  • Once the adjustments were made in the Temple, you get verse fourteen.
  • You get miracles.
  • Before we can get to the miracles of verse fourteen, Jesus must be honored and respected as King in your heart.
  • He must be respected as Savior, respected as healer respected as God, as intercessor, as Great High Priest, respected as God.
  • How do you honor Jesus?
  • You honor Him by reverencing His Word in Your heart.
  • You respect Him by working closely with the Holy Spirit whom He has sent.
  • All of which leads to adjustments which mean humility is a must.
  • It’s only the proud who don’t make adjustments.
  • It’s only the arrogant who they think they know everything and have all the answers.
  • Spirit life is a constant adjustment.
  • If you are not seeing stuff in your life, your fellowship with the King is not rich enough.
  • What adjustments do you have to make in your life before you get to verse fourteen?
  • Your body is a Temple.

1 Corinthians 6:19 (NKJV) 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

  • The Greek word ‘Temple’ means a building considered as the house or dwelling place of a deity where the deity could be worshiped.
  • Prayer and worship should go on in your temple, in your heart, in your spirit.
  • Isn’t that what priests do, offer up sacrifices of worship?

1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV) 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

  • Is prayer and worship characteristics of your temple?

2 Corinthians 6:16 (NKJV) 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”

  • What’s going on in your temple?
  • Is idolatry going on in your temple?
  • There is no agreement between idols and the Temple of the living God.
  • There is no communion between right and wrong.
  • Some stuff was happening in the Jewish Temple that wasn’t right.
  • Money was the idol the religious leaders worshiped.
  • It wasn’t the Lord.
  • It was the way of man in the Temple, not the way of God.
  • The Temple must be straightened out, idols have to go, wrong thinking must be overturned just like the money changers tables so that this Temple can fulfill its purpose and become a Temple of prayer.

Amos 3:3 (NKJV) 3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?

  • You have to agree with God.
  • You have to believe it like He says it.
  • And, once the adjustments were made in the Temple, the blind and the deaf were healed.
  • That is the power of the Lord, the Presence of the Lord, became manifest in an increased way and miracles were the by-product of that.
  • Miracles happen.
  • They are the by-product of adjustment.

Luke 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

  • Jesus was teaching, that means He was present.
  • You know we talk about the Presence of God, what is that?
  • It’s Jesus being present or showing up.

Matthew 18:20 (NKJV) 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

  • ‘There am I’ means His Presence is there.
  • You understand that God is everywhere present but He is not everywhere manifest.
  • God is present in the bank that’s held up as we speak, or the murder that’s being committed as we speak.
  • He is present but He is not manifest because if He was manifest they wouldn’t be robbing the bank, they would be worshiping Him.
  • In order get the Presence to increase in your life, sometimes adjustments have to be made inside the Temple so that flow of prayer can occur.
  • This is an unusual series as to how the Lord is instructed us to do it.
  • This series is about adjustments.
  • Adjustments maybe in your heart which need to be made.
  • Adjustments in how you think in your heart.

Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV) 7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…

Adjustments in Speech which Lead to Presence

Psalm 19:14 (NKJV) 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

  • This verse is not just a benediction.
  • Ministers have used it as such but it’s way more than the close to a service.
  • Psalm 19:14 is a living Word from a living God which must be believed and acted on.
  • The Hebrew word ‘acceptable’ means the act of accepting with approval.
  • How are you going to know if your words are acceptable?
  • Are you just going to roll the dice and hope they are?

Adjustments in Speech

  • Let me ask you a question here.
  • Does it matter what kind of natural temperament you have?
  • Does Psalm 19:14 only apply to naturally quiet people or does it apply to naturally talkative people also?
  • It applies to all people.
  • In any congregation, you have all levels of people when it comes to conversation.
  • From the quiet to the extreme talkative and everything in between, Bible verses on controlling your tongue apply to everybody.

Proverbs 10:19 (NKJV) 19 In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.

  • This verse yields one definite truth about how people communicate.
  • Those who talk a lot, sin a lot.
  • Some of the most rebellious, most viscous despisers of authority, I have met were way out control talkers.
  • Those who restrain their lips are wise.
  • The word ‘restrains’, in the Hebrew, is a verb which means to withhold, to hold back, refuse to share, refuse to hand over.
  • Refuse to share.
  • If you are not watching your words, you are probably sinning more than you realize.

Psalm 141:3 (NKJV) 3 Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.

  • Now, right away, the sanguines, the talkers, will arise and say, ‘God made me this way’.
  • You know sanguines are more communicative than other personality types.
  • So, God made you violate the Bible?
  • Surely, you are not saying that.
  • Proverbs 10:19 applies to everyone.
  • Everyone should set a watch over their mouths.
  • Everyone should make sure the words of their mouth and the meditations of their heart are right.
  • Everyone should refrain their lips.
  • Talkers don’t get a pass because of personality.
  • What was Jesus personality?
  • Was Jesus sanguine or choleric?
  • How would we know what personality Jesus was?
  • When Jesus said,

John 8:28 (NKJV) 28 Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

  • Was that personality talking or was that a Spirit-led man who understood the power of words?
  • I think you can see that adjustments are a good thing to make in the area of speech and conversation.
  • You know in order to help people, you have to be able to locate where they are.
  • My heart for you is to help where you are not just with information but with Holy Spirit directed teaching.
  • If you want an increase in the Presence of God in your life, then think adjustment.
  • Once you receive from the Spirit of God in the right way, with the right attitude, and with the right motive, you will grow in leaps and bounds and the Presence will increase in your life.
