What it Means to Wait on God

How do we pray about the plan of God for our lives? Jesus gave us a startling promise concerning prayer. He said, abiding in Him and His Words abiding in us makes answered prayer a done deal (John 15:7). According to Jesus, praying about the plan involves something called ‘abiding’ in Him. What does it mean to abide in Him? Part of abiding in Him involves the discipline of waiting upon God. Praying about the plan entails waiting on God for His direction. We want to successfully fulfill His will, we must learn the secret of waiting.

Lessons in Hearing God

There are multiple ways to be led by the Spirit of God. Here are two ways you might ponder in this area of being led by the Lord in your everyday life. Area one, by the Spirit of God directly; area two, by interpreting situations in the light of the love of God. With that being said, there are some valuable lessons that one can learn in this arena of hearing the Lord. Some of these lessons may help accelerate the learning curve. Consider the following.

Preparing the Way of the Lord

Isaiah 40:3-5 speaks of preparing a highway for God. This prophecy concerns the first coming of Jesus. According to Jesus, John the Baptist was of the instruments God used to prepare this highway for the Messiah. But, there is another coming of Jesus, a Second Coming. Another highway has to be built for the return of Jesus. How can we cooperate with God in this area? God’s heart has always been to flood the entire earth with His glory. How can we help prepare a highway for our God?

Miracles of the Unusual Variety

God is a miracle working God, that is a self-evident fact. Miracles, in and of themselves when manifested, produce wonder and amazement. Such is their nature. Many are familiar with some of the well known miracles in the Bible like splitting the Red Sea and Lazarus being raised from the dead. But, in the Bible there are other miracles that are not as well known but should be. These are miracles of the unusual variety. God did them through Jesus, through the disciples in the early church and by the hands of Paul (Acts 19:16). That pattern continues today. What you will find as you look at some of these manifestations is that God does extraordinary things through ordinary people. So, let’s look at a few of these unusual miracles.

Containers of Power

Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” Discussing God’s power is not for the small minded. As you follow the trail of God’s glory and power in the Bible, you will find that there are ‘storage places’ where the anointing and glory can be stored. Let’s look at some of these containers.

Why Was It Important to God to Have the Spirit Within You?

Every born again believer on planet earth has the ‘Spirit of God within’, there are no exceptions, there are no special circumstances. Every single solitary believer has the Spirit within. It is part of the born again phenomenon. If you are born again, you have the Spirit of the living God living in your spirit. Why do you have Him in you and why was it such an important thing to God the Father to accomplish this in the history of man? Let’s take a look.

Demonstrating the Glory of God

Experiencing Gods presence on earth is training for our days as glorified sons of God. The glory of God is a tangible reality. We should soak in it, know it and understand all we can about it. In the Old Covenant, the Israelites saw it. In the New Covenant, we carry that same glory, that same presence of the Lord, in ‘our earthen vessel’ (2Cor. 4:7). The glory of God can be studied in scripture as a thread that runs through both Testaments. You will find out if you do so, that believers in Jesus are supposed to be demonstrators of His glory and we are to do so until all the earth is full of His Presence.

The Jonathan Connection

The Lord put certain people in your life in order to help you navigate through and fulfill your destiny. These relationships are God ordained relationships. They are not after the flesh. They are Spirit-led and Spirit orchestrated encounters. There is much talk of ‘relationship mechanics’ in the world today and you can find such talk easily on the internet. The difference between Spirit-led, God ordained, relationships and what the world has to offer is like the difference between the 1st Temple that Solomon built and the 2nd Temple that was rebuilt after the Babylonians came in and destroyed the first one.

Are You Tuned Into God’s Heart?

In the book of Jonah, we have a tale of two hearts. We can see God’s heart of compassion for Nineveh. We can also see Jonah has no heart for Nineveh. What is the problem here? Jonah knows the Lord. Jonah knows His voice. Jonah operated in the prophetic, so he is spiritually gifted. Jonah is not a big time sinner. Yet with all of those spiritual credentials, Jonah has no heart for Nineveh. His heart was not tuned into the heart of God. So, what does the Lord do? He confronts Jonah with a situation that shows him how out of tune he is.

Three Things God’s Peace Provides

Peace is translated in the KJV as ‘peace, quietness, rest, or to be set at one again.’ There exists many earthly definitions for peace. But, here we are talking about peace in your heart. Peace that is in your recreated born again human spirit. We are talking about quietness or rest in your spirit. The Bible says the fruit of the spirit is peace! If it is a fruit, then know that fruit can grow! Here are three things that God’s peace provides in the life of a believer.
